CATTLE EGRET SOCIAL HOUSING
Cattle Egret is a bird. It eats the parasites living in the skin of the Hippopotamus.
In doing this, it cleans the Hippo and in the same time it feeds itself: each one benefits from the other.
This image of symbiosis between two different species is a metaphor for a possible scenario of Social Housing: local authorities have not funds available for social housing, this is why there should be a synergy with private entrepreneurs. In this way the economic wealth will be also a social asset for the community.

TELEVISION, un libro in cui Lago si racconta

LAGO scrive in un libro una bella storia, la sua, quella che l’ha portata nel giro di pochi anni ad essere riconosciuta tra le migliori aziende emergenti del design, think and made in Italy. Scarse le parole, parlano forte e chiaro le bellissime immagini. Grande il formato. Total black la copertina, rigida e telata e per contrasto, colorate, fresche, ironiche e spontanee le fotografie, una manciata di frames che raccontano i luoghi e i volti della gente della LAGO.
E’ un viaggio insomma questo libro, è come andare al cinema, o meglio è come guardare la TV, quella buona, quella dei documentari fatti di immagini ricche d’emozione che portano ad evadere dalla routine. Il libro si apre non a caso con il grande monoscopio a colori con cui si aprono e si chiudono le trasmissioni in TV, da cui il titolo TELEVISION. Grande come una TV, questa doppia pagina nasce anche come possibile alternativa al finto e artefatto televisore usato abitualmente nei negozi di arredamento. Con la creatività e l’inventiva che le è propria, LAGO offre uno strumento utile anche per l’allestimento dei punti vendita.
La storia che accompagna il lettore parte dai luoghi, aprendo con una doppia pagina dell’assolata e verde campagna veneta che circonda la fabbrica, dove un’improbabile nuotatrice finge di gettarsi in uno dei tanti canali che solcano il territorio. Seguono le immagini di diversi spaccati di questa fabbrica non-fabbrica con al centro sempre l’uomo che lì lavora, come vuole la trilogia di valori-manifesto che orienta l’etica e il business dell’azienda: UOMO, DESIGN, ACCESSIBILITA’. Luoghi e persone sembrano avere la stessa anima, la stessa luminosità, la stessa capacità di colpire al cuore. La vocazione innata alla creatività, al gioco, alla libertà d’espressione distingue LAGO in questa felice e autentica sequenza di istantanee che molto dicono della gente e dell’anima dell’azienda.
Se si prendesse in mano il libro TELEVISION senza sapere chi ci sta dietro, alla fine si potrebbe solo dire che dietro c’è LAGO: questo vuol dire avere una chiara identità d’azienda.
Sembra di esserci stati, in Lago, quando si chiude il libro.

There are different ways to build a better and more interesting future either for a city and for its citizens. Surely a quality Design School can offer enthusiasm, innovative solutions and it can participate actively to transform the overall feeling of living in a city. Eindhoven is definitely a small town compared to London or Tokyo, nevertheless they managed to create a world wide known Design School which attracts talents from all over the globe. The atmosphere inside the Academy is very engaging: you can’t recognize where classroom and studios spaces end and where the kitchen area for tea or lunch break begins, it’s a very fluid space where areas are mixed and lot of furniture are on wheels. It’s quite simple to guess that to design the future you have to be in a futuristic environment (at least it should pretend to be). It’s definitely more difficult to generate innovative thinking in an old classical environment where classrooms are conceived like old times.
Does it all depend on the visionary Director of the Eindhoven Design Academy Lidewij Edelkoort or on a clever investment from Philips?
Whatever the answer is, I think would-be designers should know that they don’t necessarily need to move to an expensive city like London or New York to get a good education on design.
